Kerry 2-23 Limerick 0-6 Life under returning Kerry manager Jack O’Connor got off to a flying start as the Kingdom comfortably defeated a depleted Limerick side by 23 points at Austin Stack Park on Wednesday evening.
By half-time Kerry were 16 points ahead against Billy Lee’s side – the current McGrath Cup champions, with the Clifford brothers – David and Paudie raising the white flag for the hosts.
All-Star David Clifford and Gavin Crowley had opened the scoring, putting Kerry two points ahead inside the opening four minutes – a sign of things to come.
In truth, this Group B round one game was done and dusted after just five minutes when Paudie Clifford found the back of the net to put Kerry five points ahead.
By the 11th minute, the younger of the two Clifford brothers, David, tapped home from close range to make it 2-3 to 0-1 in favour of Kerry. Limerick had responded with their opening point from Cillian Fahy.
