Former seven-time Grand Slam champion John McEnroe is happy to see Novak Djokovic returning to action this week in Dubai. Djokovic, ranked at No. 1 in the world, wasn’t allowed to compete at the Australian Open because the Australian authorities thought that allowing the Serb to compete unvaccinated would send a wrong message. After getting deported from Australia, Djokovic spent a few weeks in Belgrade, where he took his time to process everything what happened in Australia and mentally recover. Djokovic kicked off his 2022 season this week in Dubai, where made the quarterfinal before losing to Jiri Vesely. “I’m glad Novak’s here playing again,” McEnroe said. “It’s just hopefully things will be straightened out so that he can do his thing and we’ll see.
