Ole Gunner Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick have been branded “weak” with regard to Cristiano Ronaldo and the Manchester United star will leave this summer, says Paul Merson.Ronaldo made a shock return to the club last summer. He signed a two-year contract with the option to extend for a further year after leaving Juventus. The deal came like a bolt from the blue with Manchester City also keen on the 37-year-old.
But as soon as United got wind of City’s interest they pounced to get a deal done for the man adored by United fans.
His return was championed by Manchester United fans, but Merson always maintained Ronaldo was the wrong fit for the club.
The former Arsenal man maintains that stance, but he admits the veteran has been a hit at Old Trafford. And 18 goals in 31 games proves his return has been a success. …
