No. 5 seed Paula Badosa came out with an aggressive mindset against world No. 21 Leylah Fernandez and it paid off as she defeated the Canadian in the Indian Wells round-of-16. Badosa, ranked at No. 7 in the world, cruised past No.18 seed Fernandez 6-4 6-4 to reach the Indian Wells quarterfinal. Badosa blew the break she earned in the seventh game but broke Fernandez again in the ninth game for a 5-4 lead and then served out for the first set in the following game.
