Chelsea had made moves to sign Chicago Fire goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina before they were hammered by sanctions from the UK Government, claims a report.The Blues have been forced to operate under a strict Government licence after sanctions were placed on owner Roman Abramovich. The Russian had put Chelsea up for sale on March 2, amid Russia’s continued invasion of Ukraine.
Part of the licence is that Abramovich unable to profit from Chelsea’s sale. The club are also unable to make new signings or sign players to new contracts.
Chelsea are seeking a quick sale and the process should be complete by the end of April. But just how long they will be unable to sign players for is unclear.
According to Fabrizio Romano Blues official were working behind the scenes in January and February to sign 17-year-old Chicago Fire goalkeeper Slonina [born in 2004].
