Wimbledon has decided to ban Russian and Belarusian players from competing at Wimbledon, a tennis authority with the knowledge of the situation told The New York Times. In March, UK Sports Minister Nigel Huddleston suggested Russian players should be required to publicly denounce Russian president Vladimir Putin before they are allowed to compete at Wimbledon. Leading Russian players – Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova – have all spoken out against the war but Huddleston suggested they should do more in order to be given the green light to play.
