Sligo’s incredible late, late show earned them a first Connacht under-20 title as they beat Mayo by a point, 4-4 to 1-12, at Markievicz Park.
Five points down, 1-11 to 2-3, with eight minutes of normal time left, Sligo were also reduced to 14 players due to a straight red card for corner back Shane Molloy.
Mayo, who didn’t hit the front until the 43rd minute, seemed in control thanks to a fortunate goal after 51 minutes from their best forward Paddy Heneghan, who contributed 1-3.
But Sligo’s comeback began with a goal by Eoghan Smith, the home side’s hero from their semi-final defeat of Roscommon a week previously.
