World number one Carlos Alcaraz is out of the Australian Open after suffering a ‘chance’ hamstring injury in practice. Alcaraz, 19, was the breakout star of men’s tennis in 2022, winning four Masters and a maiden Grand Slam at the US Open to become the youngest world number one in ATP history. However, injury blighted him in the final weeks of the season, with an abdominal problem ruling him out of the ATP Finals in Turin.
