Some light and the end of the tunnel for Conor Benn, after nearly a year his name has been cleared of any wrong doings following his failed drug test. Now it’s time for him to get back in the ring.

Benn was due to fight Chris Eubank Jr in October last year; it was set to be one of the biggest fights of the year and the family feud really did hit boiling point in the lead up to the fight. This created huge disappointment when the bout was cancelled on fight week, even more so as the whole show had to be cancelled.

Regardless of last year’s disappointment George Groves wants to see if Conor Benn ‘is legit’ and he does not want to see the fight with Eubank to be rearranged now.

This may not be to every boxing fan’s liking from Groves as they want to see the next generation of Eubank v Benn but maybe he is right, maybe now is not the time for this…

On the other hand, you don’t need to be a boxing enthusiast to know how hard it is to make big fights in this day and age. Having already missed out on this clash once, it would be ridiculous to delay it anymore.

Two fighters, in their prime, with a huge rivalry. So many of these fights have been missed in the recent past and no one wants to see these two guys arguing in their 50s on twitter having never stepped into the ring together.

Conor Benn has ‘come on an awful lot,’ said Groves, speaking to Mail Sport via Genting Casino. Hopefully the lay-off since his last fight hasn’t affected him as he was really starting to find his feet as an established professional, hence all the excitement in the buildup for the Eubank fight.

So, who next? Benn was linked heavily to a fight with Manny Pacquiao earlier in the year when it was announced Benn’s return was imminent. As big of an icon that Pacquiao is, Groves wants to see Benn face some ‘live prospects’ and not a Pacquiao or a Kell Brook.

It seems during this investigation Benn has been spending much of his time in the gym sharpening his tools to be ready for his comeback. Groves said he looks ‘ferocious’ in the gym and it is time to see ‘what he is made of.’

Regardless of how good Benn looks in the gym, nothing can replace time in the ring in front of big crowds, it simply cannot be replicated. So before jumping into a major fight with the likes of Eubank, Jaron Ennis or Errol Spence he will need some rounds to get back to his best, but after that Eddie Hearn will be ready to unleash him to the top contenders and potentially some World title shots.
