Boxing fans in the UK will get the chance to relive one of the most famous fights in history when Rematch’s second immersive experience, Rumble in the Jungle Rematch, comes to London later this week.

The experience – which will be launching at central London’s Dock X on 14 September – will see fans step back in time to 1974 when Muhammad Ali and George Foreman went toe-to-toe in Zaire.

Rematch will be using a cast of actors to reenact the historic fight. They’ll also combine live music, food and drink to create authentic smells and tastes relating to the Rumble in the Jungle.

The immersive experience will cover everything from the media attention that surrounded the fight to Ali’s pre-match trash talking and the famous rope-a-dope move that a performed during the bout.

Music from the Zaire 74 music festival will be played throughout the night, with iconic tunes from the likes of James Brown, BB King, Bill Withers and Sister Sledge set to feature.

Joe Joyce has also been named as ambassador for the event as Rematch believe he is the perfect fit given his rematch with Zhilei Zhang will be taking place at the end of September.

When asked what fans can expect from the event, Tristan Fynn-Aiduenu – who wrote Rematch’s Rumble in the Jungle – said: ‘This event will remind you and place you back in the feelings of that time, if you were from that time, but if you’re not, don’t worry, because you’re going to feel something brand new.

‘You’re getting the closest thing you will ever have gotten to seeing Ali up close. When you do come and see this piece of work, it is going to be a once in a lifetime experience. We just want the audience to feel like they got to be part of something spectacular and spiritually evolving.’

While Femi Temowo, composer and critically acclaimed jazz guitarist, said: ‘We expect that people will leave the show, feeling like they were there, on that night when Ali won and feeling that triumphant feeling, feeling like they can go out of that venue and go be incredible boxers themselves, or take that feeling into whatever the next day will hold for them.’

He went on to add: ‘We are really trying to get people to just forget where they really are and believe where they are in that moment.

‘It would be great to see as many people from the diaspora of Africa, whether that be the Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo, Nigeria, wherever you come from, come and be part of the story, because we get to tell our own stories and those stories are just stronger with our participation, and even if you’re not from one of those places, make sure you come along.’
