India vs Australia Live Score, 2nd ODI: Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill Solid, 1-Down India On Top vs Australia

After an initial slow start to his innings, Shubman Gill has finally opened his arms. He smashes a huge six off Sean Abbott’s delivery. He smartly places a straight long-on shot as the ball lands safely into the crowd. He then went on to smash a boundary and brings up a fifty-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer. 

Shreyas Iyer is not leaving opportunity of scoring runs as he is targeting every bowler. In the previous over of Josh Hazlewood, he smashes a boundary as the pacer leaks seven uns. With this, Iyer has crossed the 30-run mark and inching closer towards his half-century.

Despite the sudden dismissal of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Team India still got momentum on their side. Shreyas Iyer smashes two boundaries off Spencer Johnson’s delivery as the pacer leaks nine runs. On the other hand, Iyer is also getting a good support from Shubman Gill.

The second ODI match between India and Australia begins with Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad, opening for the hosts. On the other hand, Spencer Johnson will be bowling the first over for Australia. 

When I was sitting inside, I was actually visualising if we need about 125 runs, what will be my approach. I have practised what I did yesterday in the last five-six sessions. I wanted to see what I can do without playing a single sweep shot if I bat for about 40-50 balls and really got good confidence with the last game. (On playing conventional shots) I have done that a lot in first-class cricket, whatever cricket I’ve played for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy I used to do that. I just recalled all of it and thought if I can do this again, then nothing like it. I was thinking about what’s going wrong in this format, everything remains the same, white ball is the same, the colour of clothing is the same, I got a lot of learnings from my team management.

Star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the remaining two matches against Australia as he has taken a short break to visit his family. In his absence, pacer Mukesh Kumar has joined Team India’s squad. 

We would have bowled first as well considering the size of the ground. Good wicket, good challenge to put runs on the board. We only have one change from the last game. Jasprit is rested, Prasidh comes in. Good for all our batters to spend some time in the middle.

We’ll bowl. It’s pretty warn. Looks a nice wicket, fancy chasing. If it (dew) comes in, it’ll help while chasing. We want to win but we also want to try out a different combination. We’ve got a few changes.

UPDATE : Mr Jasprit Bumrah did not travel with the team to Indore for the 2nd ODI against Australia.

He has gone to visit his family and given a short break by the team management. Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar has joined the team as Bumrah’s replacement for the 2nd ODI.

Rain in the city has brought the temperature down which will be welcomed by the players from either side after experiencing unusual heat and humidity in Mohali.

Ravichandran Ashwin came up with a tidy bowling effort in his comeback game but was not able to put the Australian batters in much discomfort on a flat track. He was not able to generate much turn and his flatter deliveries were easily negotiated by the opposition.

India’s designated number 4 Shreyas Iyer, whose fitness came under the scanner in the Asia Cup even though he was coming back from a long injury-lay off, has not been able to get time in the middle due to different reasons. While a back spasm ruled him out of the business end of Asia Cup, an avoidable run out on Friday ended his nervy 8-ball stay in the centre. The right-hander will be hoping for a bagful of runs in the coming two games which would make him and his team feel much better going into the global event.

Team India defeated Australia in the first ODI on Friday and took 1-0 lead in the three-match series. It was Mohammed Shami’s 5 for 51 that helped India bowl out Australia for 276 runs after captain KL Rahul won the toss and opted to bowl first. In the chase, Shubman Gill (74) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (71) put up a solid opening stand before KL Rahul (58 not out) and Suryakumar Yadav (50) did the finishing work.
