Jermell Charlo says moving up in weight for his blockbuster bout with Canelo Alvarez has been far from easy.

Charlo will be stepping up two divisions from light middleweight on Saturday evening as he looks to dethrone Canelo.

The younger Charlo twin emphasised the importance of having the ‘right people in your corner’ when changing weight.

The 33-year-old spoke about having a doctor by his side throughout the process, but denied having a nutritionist.

Instead, Charlo said he cooks his own food as people that live in the South ‘know how to get that s*** right’.

When asked whether moving up in weight was a big deal, Charlo said: ‘It is important. It’s super important.

‘You can’t just move up in weight and walk around fat. You’re going to be out of shape and you won’t be able to move around.

‘So, yeah moving up in weight isn’t easy. Just like moving down in weight isn’t easy either. You have to have the right people in your corner. You have to have doctors and nutritionists etc.

‘Although, I don’t have a nutritionist as I am from the south. We cook our own food, we know how to get that s*** right.

‘But, a lot of people do [have a nutritionist] and I think you are meant too, especially towards the end of things. But, when you now how to cook and you’ve got awesome food around you, you don’t need all of that.’

When asked how he felt at the new weight, Charlo said: ‘Making the weight shouldn’t be an issue. It feels good. I kinda feel it, but I kinda don’t. You still gotta work to make [weight] and come in at the same weight he is.’
