Pakistan vs Netherlands Live Score Updates, World Cup 2023: Mohammad Rizwan Solid After Fifty But Pakistan Lose Saud Shakeel

Saud Shakeel is out! Aryan Dutt gets back into the attack and removes the dangerous looking Shakeel at the latter’s individual score of 68 off 52 balls. Shakeel edged the ball in the air while trying to play a sweep shot and Saqib Zulfiqar comfortably took the catch.

Mohammed Rizwan scored his 13th ODI fifty on the first ball of the 26th over. This are in control for Pakistan as the duo of Rizwan and Saud Shakeel have already added over 100 runs for the third wicket. Spinner Aryan Dutt has been really impressive with the ball so far. In the previous over, he concedes only four runs as Babar Azam and Imam Ul Haq look to get some boundaries, in order to gain the momentum. 

After scalping the wicket of Fakhar Zaman, Netherlands bowlers are eyeing some more breakthroughs. In the previous over of Paul van Meekeren, the duo of Imam Ul Haq and Babar Azam score six runs.

After a slow first over, Pakistan gain some momentum in the next over of Paul van Meekeren. Fakhar Zaman smashes two back-to-back boundaries as Van leaks nine runs. Pakistan now aim to get more boundaries in the coming overs. 

Pakistan are off to a decent start against Netherlands. In the first over of Aryan Dutt, the openers Fakhar Zaman and Imam Ul Haq score four runs, which came from the bat of the former.

We will try our best with the bat. We believe in our openers, Imam and Fakhar. Shaheen is there as well. Hasan is back in the side. We are looking at 290-300 plus.

We will bowl first, might get a little bit easier under lights. We got some quality bowlers and spinners who can bowl in the powerplay. For us it’s about adjusting and see how the pitch is playing.

Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards won the toss and opted to bowl against Pakistan in the ODI World Cup 2023 match on Friday.  

Pakistan haven’t had the smoothest of beginnings in World Cup history but they would be keen to change that against Netherlands today. We are about 10 minutes away from the toss!

In the absence of injured Naseem Shah, the Pakistan bowlers were at the receiving end in the couple of warm-ups against New Zealand and Australia. Pakistan vice-captain Shadab Khan has been struggling since Asia Cup and goes into the opener under pressure. Fellow leg-spinner Usama Mir is breathing down his neck and there is a possibility that both may start against the Netherlands as Pakistan search for wickets in the middle overs. 

The big positive for the unpredictable team is that its number three and four, skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, are in sublime touch. Iftikhar Ahmed too has been getting the runs but it remains to be seen if Salman Agha also gets accommodated in the middle-order.

The problems begin from the top with the opening combination not looking the most threatening in the competition. Imam-Ul-Haq averages an impressive 50 in ODIs but on flatter decks in India, he need to better his strike rate of 82 by a few notches. Imam is expected to start against Netherlands but the team will need to choose between the destructive but out-of-form Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique who doesn’t have the experience of world events.

Pakistan would be desperate to plug the gaping holes and hope their star players regain form. Following a pre-mature Asia Cup exit and defeats in the two warm-up games, Pakistan definitely need to raise their game to go deep in the ODI showpiece.
