British boxer Connor Coghill, 28, is in hospital with a bleed on his brain following his knockout defeat against Hopey Price in Sheffield on October 7.
The bout was stopped in the 12th round in a technical knockout, with Coghill having been knocked down four times in the fight.
He had complained of headaches before going to hospital and his trainer Stefy Bull confirmed his charge is in a stable condition.
He posted on X: ‘We are saddened to confirm Connor is currently in hospital under observation after a scan has discovered a bleed on his brain.

‘Obviously it’s devastating news for Connor as boxing has been his life since a young age.
‘He’s stable and resting and wanting people to respect his time during this difficult period.
‘Everyone at Stefy Bull Promotions are praying for a full recovery and wish him good health. We will keep you all updated.’
The defeat was the first of Coghill’s professional career and after the bout he had told the Hull Daily Mail: ‘The support I had before and maybe even more so after the fight has been incredible.
‘I had people coming up to me at Hull Fair telling me how well I’d done and how much they enjoyed the fight. It was nice to get those comments.’
‘There’s a frustration because I rushed my work in those last rounds and lunged in, that’s not me.
I felt I could walk through him because of the success I’d had early on and I got complacent and over confident, that was my mistake.

‘He’s a quality fighter and you can’t do that. I’m on the fence whether I can be positive or not, but I know that what I did do was show I can mix it with a top operator.
‘I’m not making excuses, Hopey is a great fighter, he’s a top lad and he caught me with some good shots.’
After Bull’s social media statement, revealing the news, Hull FC wished the fighter well, writing: ‘Sending our best wishes to Connor and his family.’
Tony Bellew was another to offer support, writing: ‘Thinking of Connor Coghill tonight! Professional boxing is a dangerous business and should not be played with! When done properly it’s the greatest sport but the most brutal sport of all.. Thinking of you champ I hope you have a speedy recovery.’
