The Fury family have well documented their fighting prowess and impressive bravery through multiple books, countless interviews and now a Netflix series.

Tyson Fury – also known as ‘the Gypsy King’ – is the current WBC heavyweight boxing champion of the world and many have claimed he is the greatest fighter to ever live.

His father John Fury, a professional boxer himself, has recently declared that he wants to fight Mike Tyson as he ‘fears no man’.

But little is known about the other members of the Fury clan – including a ‘hard-as-nails’ mother who has rejected her son’s fame or Tyson’s older brother who was sent to prison.

So, from Love Island brother to even more professional boxers in the family – let’s take a look inside the wild life of the Fury family.

Starting off with Amber Fury – who is the mother to long-reigning heavyweight champion Tyson – this member of the family has tried her very best to escape the limelight.

Formerly married to John Fury, the two share three children together. Their first child was John Boy, who would later be arrested and dragged back to a young offenders’ institute to serve the remainder of his sentence.

They also had Shane Fury and also Tyson. Their daughter, Ramona, tragically passed away after birth when Tyson was just nine years old.

The couple reportedly endured fourteen pregnancies together, only four of which seem to have carried to term.

After the pair split, John went on to marry his second wife Chantal in 1989 and the couple had Love Island star and boxing champ Tommy Fury.

Far from her famous family, it seems she prefers to stay out of the spotlight and, according to The Telegraph, she has never even been to watch one of her son’s fights.

In his autobiography, Behind The Mask, Tyson revealed: ‘I took her out shopping one time after the Wilder fight and I was being stopped for photographs and autographs everywhere I went in Manchester and she couldn’t understand it.

‘I had to explain to her that I was the heavyweight champion of the world and a lot of people had watched me and supported me. That was actually very special.’

Impressively, she has been able to keep out of the public eye for several years, speaking to the Irish Mirror Tyson revealed that his mum has separated herself from the buzz of his life.

He said: ‘I looked on Google the other day and there’s not one picture of my mother on the internet. That’s crazy isn’t it? She has never been to one of my boxing fights, amateur or professional and never been in the public eye at all.

‘I don’t think it means anything to my mum. She doesn’t care if I’m world champion or not, as long as I’m healthy and happy. That is the only thing that means anything to her.’

Moving on to John Fury, born in Tuam, Galway, into a family rich in traveller heritage, from a young age he trained as a boxer, making his professional debut in April 1987 against rugby player Adam Fogerty.

One of four boys, John is the son of Irish traveller Hughie and English Romany gypsy Patience, known as Cissy, who toured Britain in their caravan. He said his family’s fighting prowess stemmed from his tough-as-nail mother who was a ‘natural southpaw’.

Growing up was tough, said John, with his family facing discrimination and being ‘stigmatised as thieves and vagabonds’.

As an adult, John became a professional boxer in a career that lasted eight years, during which time he fought in 13 bouts. But behind John’s skill with his fists was an explosive fury that would get him in trouble with the law on more than one occasion.

Aged 30 John embarked on a five-year stint as an ‘enforcer’, where people would call on him to collect debts.

But in February 2011, John was jailed for 11 years for gouging the eye out of fellow traveller Oathie Sykes in a savage fight at a car auction, which proved to be the bloody end to a 12-year feud over a bottle of beer.

Manchester Crown Court heard during his trial that the then-46-year-old declared himself the country’s toughest man before pouncing on his victim, who was left half-blind as a result of the attack.

Fearing for his son, Tyson’s future boxing career, John wept in court as he begged for leniency.

Speaking of the victim, he added: ‘If I could give my own eye to him to get back to my children I would do – I’m begging you for my life.’

Mr Sykes told court he believed Fury wanted to completely blind him in the attack. He added: ‘It was like he was trying to pull his finger into my brains through my socket. I was screaming, “Please stop, you’re hurting me”.

‘After that he tried to take my other eye – he tried to blind me, sir, not once he tried to blind me, twice.’

Tyson, who was trained by his father at the time, supported John from the public gallery.

Despite being Tyson’s trainer, Fury then missed crucial career-building fights before his eventual release in February 2015, just four years into his 11-year sentence.

Two months after his release, Fury saw his son Tyson becoming heavyweight champion of the world after beating Wladimir Klitschko in Germany.

Tommy Fury is well-known to the public after his stint in Love Island which saw him marry Molly-Mae.

Born in 1999 to John’s second wife Chantal, he is Tyson’s half-brother as they share the same father.

Following in the family footsteps, he is a professional boxer and is so far unbeaten. He has fought the likes of Jake Paul, Anthony Taylor and KSI. He now has a daughter Bambi with Molly.

Roman Fury is another one of Tyson’s half-brothers as his mother is Chantal.

In 2020 he announced that he was the ninth Fury family member to take up boxing and lives near to Tyson in Morecambe.

Shane Fury, whose mother is Amber, reportedly tends to stay out of the limelight as well.

Despite not being a boxer, he has shared his support for Tyson over the years.

Hugh Fury is another one of Tyson’s half-brothers and while he doesn’t box, his life is centred around fitness.

He often posts workout routines to his social media accounts, but it seems as though he works in home improvement according to his Instagram.

Hughie, who is Tyson’s cousin, is a boxer while John Fury Jr began life as a boxer, but has now quit.

He is married to Shirelle Fury and they reportedly have six children together.
