India vs South Africa Live Score, 2nd Test Match: Jasprit Bumrah Joins The Party, South Africa 3 Down vs India

After losing two wickets in a quick succession, South Africa rely on Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs for a stable partnership. The Proteas are on the backfoot and having a tough time facing Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Interestingly, no boundary has been hit so far in the match. 

OUT!!! Mohammed Siraj strikes again and this time, Dean Elgar departs for 4. Siraj delivers a short ball as Elgar tries to play it towards the cover. However, the ball misses the bat and strikes onto the stumps, leaving Elgar in shock. A big wicket for India as South Africa lose their skipper. 

The early dismissal of Aiden Markram has put South Africa on the backfoot. The pace duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj is visibly troubling the Proteas batters. Dean Elgar, who has now been joined by Tony de Zorzi aim to stitch a solid partnership, in order to bring some momentum towards his side. 

OUT!!! Mohammed Siraj has provided India with their first breakthrough as he dismissed Aiden Markram for 2. Markram tries to defend it but the line and length helps Siraj as the ball hit the outside edge and Yashasvi Jaiswal takes an excellent catch. First wicket gone for South Africa. 

After a good start from Jasprit Bumrah, pacer Mohammed Siraj bowls an excellent over. In previous over, he concedes only one run as Aiden Markran and Dean Elgar fail to connect the ball to the bat and get a boundary. Indian bowlers are looking in good touch today. 

India are off to a fiery start against South Africa. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah showcases his immense swing in the first over as the Aiden Markram gets beaten twice. In the first over, he leaks only two runs as the Proteas aim for some momentum in the coming overs. 

The second Test match between India and South Africa begins. Dean Elgar and Aiden Markram have opened for South Africa while Jasprit Bumrah will be bowling the first over for India. India eye some quick wickets in the early stages of the game, in order to create pressure on the Proteas. 

Both the teams are out on the field for their respective national anthems. The second Test between India and South Africa will begin in a few minutes. 

We’ve got quite a few days to prepare for this one. This is a new year, new day for us and we are going to come back and make a statement in this Test match. It’s very important to be there mentally, you have to let your focus and determination and let your grit take over. It’s not so much about the technique, it’s more so about the grit and determination. This is a great opportunity for us to level the series and all of us are very well prepared and very well equipped to be able to win this Test match.

Would’ve batted first as well. Looks a good pitch. We understand the challenge of batting first on that pitch, but nevertheless, there will be enough in the pitch for the seamers, so hopefully we’ll cash in on it. Important to forget what’s happened in the past. We understand the importance of getting runs on the board, and getting 20 wickets. Didn’t happen in the first game but we’re upbeat about what we can achieve here. Two changes. Jadeja comes back for Ashwin. Shardul misses out, Mukesh Kumar replaces him.

Going to bat. Pitch looks interesting. We’re in a great position. Can’t win a two-match series if you don’t win the first – we’ve crossed that hurdle. Scoreboard starts on nought. We all know that. Starting well is going to be key against this Indian side. Got a debutant in Tristan Stubbs coming in for Temba. Ngidi comes in for Coetzee who’s also injured. And Maharaj comes in.

South Africa regular skipper Temba Bavuma sustained a hamstring injury during the first match and has been ruled out of the remaining Test series. As a result, batter Dean Elgar will be donning the captain’s hat for South Africa in the second Test against India. 

As per Accuweather, the weather is likely to be clear throughout the day. Sun is expected to be out while the chances of rain are quite less. The temperature is set to fluctuate between 28 to 30 degree celsius. In fact, no rain is expected in the first two days in Cape Town. The pitch at the Newlands will be a batting paradise with little help for spinners from either side.

The second Test match is a big game for India as they hope to end the two-match series with a draw. The Rohit Sharma-led side will aim for redemption as they eye improvement in their World Test Championship points table. India are currently sixth in the points table with 14 points (38.89 PCT) and a defeat will dent their position further.

India faced a shocking defeat by an innings and 32 runs against South Africa in the first Test in Centurion. The match was completely dominated by South Africa as Kagiso Rabada’s five-wicket haul put India on the back foot. KL Rahul played a counter-attacking knock of 101 but it was soon overshadowed by Elgar’s breathtaking 185. In the second innings, India only managed 131 with Virat Kohli smashing a gritty 76. The hosts won the match by an innings and 32 runs.
