Amid all the reports, another shocking rumor that is making headlines these days is star batter Virat Kohli might miss the T20 World Cup 2024. However, there’s no official confirmation regarding this news. 

After the three T20Is against Afghanistan, Team India will be going up against England in a lengthy five-match Test series at home. The series will kick start from January 25 with the first Test being played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. 

India skipper Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli have not played T20I cricket since World Cup 2022. However, the latest reports have suggested that they have made themselves available for selection for the T20Is against Afghanistan. As all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been out due to injury, there are rumors on social media that it will be Rohit, who will be leading Team India in the T20I World Cup 2024.

A total of 20 teams will be participating in the tournament with four groups of five-team each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 8 stage. The advanced teams will then be divided into two groups of four-team each before the two toppers of both the groups entering the semi-finals.

The two semi-finals of T20 World Cup 2024 will be played on June 26 and 27, while the final of the tournament will be played on 29.

Star India batter Suryakumar Yadav picked up an injury during the recent series against South Africa. He is currently recovering from the injury and will be missing out on the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, 

India all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who led the team in the absence of Rohit Sharma, will be missing out on the series against Afghanistan. The newly-appointed Mumbai Indians skipper picked up an injury during the ODI World Cup 2023 and is currently out of action.

The report also claims that the pace duo of Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah are likely to be rested, having been at the center of action in South Africa. There continues to remain a question mark on the availability of Mohammed Shami, who didn’t feature in any of the two Tests in South Africa.

Apart from Siraj, another player who whole-heartedly contributed in India’s historic win in the second Test was pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Just like Siraj, Bumrah also took six wickets and helped India to bowl out the Proteas for 176 in their second innings. He also emerged as the joint Player of the Series, along with Dean Elgar. 

The recently-concluded Test series between India and South Africa will be fondly remembered for Mohammed Siraj. The Indian pacer registered a marvelous six-wicket haul in the second match and helped Team India bundle out the Proteas for 55. He also bagged the Player of the Match award for his performance. 

Team India will be coming to this series after playing a 1-1 draw against South Africa in a two-match series. After losing the first match by an innings and 32 runs, Team India registered a massive seven-wicket victory in the second game. That match also turned also turned out to be the shortest Test in the history of cricket. 

The upcoming three-match T20I series will be the only T20Is for Team India, ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be hosted by USA in June. India will be putting their best foot forward, in order to prepare for the marquee event.

The duo last featured in a T20 international back in the 2022 T20 World Cup and have since been playing only Tests and ODIs.
