Karnataka opened with Chaturvedi and Karthik SU, and the two put on a century stand, with Karthik scoring 50. The next partnership was even bigger, as Chaturvedi and Harshil Dharmani added 290 for the second wicket – Dharmani scoring 169 – which took Karnataka past Mumbai’s total. There were two other half-centuries in the innings, from Karthikeya KP and Hardik Raj – with Chaturvedi chugging along at the other end.
The innings was called off and the match ended once Chaturvedi got to his landmark, finishing 404 not out off 638 balls, with 46 fours and three sixes.
The previous highest score in a Cooch Behar Trophy final match was by Yuvraj, back in December 1999, when he scored 358 in Punjab’s win (on first-innings lead) over a Bihar side that included, among others, MS Dhoni. Vijay Zol’s 451 not out for Maharashtra against Assam in the 2011-12 season remains the highest individual score in the tournament.
