Many boxing fans are concerned that the fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will ‘never take place’ after it was postponed.

The heavyweight unification bout had been set to take place on February 17, but it has now been delayed.

The delay comes after Fury suffered a severe cut while sparring.

Fury’s wound needed significant attention, with The Telegraph stating that it required 15 stitches. 

After it was announced that the fight would be delayed, Fury expressed his frustration with the situation.

Some fans weren’t especially surprised by the fact that the fight has been postponed

In a statement, Fury said: ‘I am absolutely devastated after preparing for this fight so long and being in such superb condition.

‘I feel bad for everyone involved in this huge event and I will work diligently towards the rescheduled date once the eye has healed.

‘I can only apologise to everyone affected including my own team, Team Usyk, the undercard fighters, partners, and fans as well as our hosts and my friends in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.’ 

Now fans believe they may never get to see Fury and Usyk square off in the ring. 

One user wrote on X: ‘This fight is just never going to happen’.

Another added: ‘I genuinely think Tyson Fury vs Usyk will never happen now’.

In addition another fan admitted concerns about whether the fight will take place. They wrote: ‘Fury Vs. Usyk off. Will never believe it until I watch them enter the ring.’ 

Another user wrote: ‘So Fury was getting battered in sparring then. We will never see that fight. #FuryUsyk’.

Meanwhile, another fan wrote: ‘Kind of knew this fight wouldn’t happen… one way or another. Undisputed will never happen’.

One fan expressed hope that the postponement of Fury v Usyk will lead to Fury taking on Anthony Joshua. 

They wrote: ‘FuryUsyk was never going to happen, and probably never will. Hopefully this makes space for the British clash we all want FuryJoshua’. 

Another fan outlined their belief that the fight was never going to take place. They wrote: ‘It was never going to happen. Something was always going to happen. Never serious.’
