Former world champion Amir Khan has offered to train Wayne Rooney in a potential fight against Jamie Vardy.

Rooney has been approached by KSI’s promotion Misfits to discuss the potential of the Manchester United legend fighting at one of their events.

And Khan believes Vardy would make a great opponent for the former striker amid the ‘Wagatha Christie’ case that saw Rebekah Vardy lose her £3million libel case against Coleen Rooney in 2022 after the latter accused her of leaking ‘false stories’ about her private life.

‘Jamie Vardy is the right fight for Wayne Rooney, that’s a very good even fight,’ Khan told Gambling Zone. ‘They’ve got the spat their wives have had, what a fight that would make, it would sell well.

‘They’re both around the same level as well. They’re both novices. I’d back Wayne though because Wayne’s more streetwise, he’s more solid.

‘You don’t want to put him in the ring with someone that could hurt him, or outbox and make him look stupid, it should just be someone for a bit of fun as some like Wayne Rooney could get really hurt.

‘He’s not really a boxer, so if he got in the deep end too quickly, it could knock his confidence and he could get hurt.’

Khan added: ‘I’d love to train and help Wayne Rooney, sportsmen have a lot of respect for one another, because they’ve been there and done it, so they’d listen to you more than a normal trainer.

‘When you train with another athlete it’s going to push you and you’re going to train hard.’

Rooney confirmed last month he has been approached by Misfits but insisted his full focus is on returning to management after being sacked by Birmingham earlier this season.

The 38-year-old said: ‘They’ve been in touch and asked the question but I think at the minute I want to focus on getting back into management, not boxing.

‘There’s been a few [offers] and obviously Misfits have been in and that’s been all over the news. But listen I want to focus on getting back into management, that’s my focus.’
