Campbell Hatton has admitted that he has ‘no argument’ after suffering the first loss of his career.

The 23-year-old, who is the son of boxing legend Ricky Hatton, had won all 14 of his previous fights going into his bout with James Flint for the Central Area super lightweight title.

Although Hatton was widely expected to prevail, he ended up suffering a shock defeat in Sheffield, with Flint retaining his title following a unanimous points decision.

Flint won with scores of 98-92, 97-94 and 97-95 in an entertaining encounter.

Hatton stated that he will learn from the fight and says that he is eager to get back in the ring again as soon as possible.

Speaking after the fight, Hatton said: ‘Early on I stuck to the plan but I have no arguments, he came on strong.

‘I think I did enough but no arguments. I just have to learn.

‘I would love to do that again. All respect to Jimmy Joe.’

Hatton was also eager to point out that he isn’t just getting recognition in boxing because of his father.

He said: ‘I hope I showed a few people I am more than a silver spoon, I can dig in.’ 

Flint stressed that Campbell will be able to bounce back quickly from the defeat.

He said: ‘Well done to Campbell, he will come again, he’s a great fighter who will come again.’
